Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) Seminary offers heartfelt condolences on the occasion of 28th of Safar, the Martyrdom Anniversary of the Holy Prophet, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his progeny.)

The 28th of Safar marks a sad day for the Islamic Ummah. It marks the martyrdom anniversary of the Prophet of Mercy, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his Progeny). The final year of the prophet marked many important and influential events. One of those events is the final pilgrimage. It was the only year wherein the prophet was able to perform the sacred rituals of Hajj. Although the event itself is of particular importance yet the events following it had acute priority. Firstly, immediately after the completion of the sacred rituals, they came to a pond called ‘Khum’ which was the crossroads for the majority of the participating people.  In the event, the Holy Prophet (PBUH&HP) spoke exclusively about his successor. There were many other instances where the prophet had introduced his successor but the magnanimity of this event is incomparable. The Prophet (PBUH&HP) informed, invited, and commanded the people to follow his successor, Imam Ali (peace be upon him), and also stipulated his love and obedience to the Love and obedience of himself and ultimately to Allah (SWT). He also warned about the consequences of abandoning this command and not obeying the chosen Imam.  This event with all its importance was an introductory speech for many and many came forward, congratulated the Imam, and pledged their allegiance to him. The ceremony continued for 3 days. Although, this narration is undoubtedly one of the most famous and widely accepted Hadith in the Islamic world, with the narrators exceeding to more than 120000 people, yet it wasn’t something documented on paper.

The second most significant event amongst others is the event known as the event of ‘Pen and Paper’ wherein the prophet (PBUH&HP) was on his death bed and he asked for a pen and paper so that he may prescribe something which, if adhered to, would prevent the nation from going astray. This is a significant event as firstly, it would have been the last words of the Prophet and the most important one. Secondly, this would have been the first time that the prophet would write something. All the times before, even though he knew how to read and write but never did he write anything. And thirdly, it would have been something which would have protected the Islamic Nation from its current situation of isolation and seclusion from one another. Even with such importance we see that an influential person from the Quraysh rose and said the astoundingly disgraceful words, ‘this man is delirious’, ‘we have the book of Allah and it suffices us’ negligent of the fact that the prophet is an infallible and the Quran itself (59:07) has ordered the believers to adhere to whatever has been stated by the prophet (PBUH&HP).

The so-called believers refrained from letting the one who taught them Islam write something through which the Islamic Nation would have not been fragmented into different sects.

We ask Allah to curse the killer of the Holy Prophet (PBUH&HP) and those who attribute vices to him. And May He hasten the reappearance of our Imam so that the world can truly relish the governance of a true divine guide.
