Imam Sadiq peace be upon him Online Seminary offers heartfelt condolences on the occasion of 28th of Safar, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him)

Imam Hasan bin Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon them) is our second Imam. He was born in Madinah on the 5th of the month of Ramadhan in 3 A.H. and lived under the tutelage of the three infallibles (The Holy Prophet, Imam Ali and Lady Fatimah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon them).
He is the first son of Imam Ali and Lady Fatimah (peace be upon them) and also the grandson of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny). According to the Book (as in the verse of Mubahalah) and the established Sunnah he has the status of being the son of the Holy Prophet (PBUH&HP).

After the martyrdom of his father Imam Ali (peace be upon him) in the month of Ramadhan in the year 9 A.H., he was bestowed with the position of Imamate. History shows that more than 5,000 people swore allegiance to him and considered him to be the caliph of the entire Islamic Nation. But Muawiyah, who was appointed as a governor in Syria by the second caliph, denied his caliphate and sent troops from Syria to Iraq to confront him. A lot of political obstacles were created for the Imam and finally, as a result of Muawiyah's maliciousness, the enmity of the Kharijites, and lack of insight of the Muslims, Imam Hasan (peace be upon him) was forced to accept the peace treaty offered to him by Muawiyah.
However, Mu'awiyah did not abide by any of the clauses of the treaty and while continuing his enmity towards the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) conspired to assassinate the Imam. He tempted the wife of the Imam by offering immense wealth, a chance to marry his son, Yazid, and becoming the princess of the Islamic Nation. Ja'da bint al-Ash'ath, one of the wives of the Imam, was deceived by the offer and poisoned the Imam, her husband. This poison resulted in the martyrdom of our dear Imam, al-Hasan al- Mujtaba (peace be upon him).
There is a difference of opinion with regards to the precise date of Imam’s martyrdom with the historians differing on it to be either on the 7th or the 28th of the month of Safar.
Imam Hasan's (peace be upon him) will was to be buried in the vicinity of his grandfather, the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) but the Umayyad mercenaries along with Marwan bin Hakam did not allow the will to be fulfilled. Arrows were shot at his funeral and the body was returned to be given a new shroud and eventually, he was buried in Baqiee Cemetery.
The enmity of the enemies of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon him them) continues till today and the proof of this is that even today his grave along with the graves of the other Imams (peace be upon them) in the graveyard of Baqiee remains deserted.
May Allah hasten the reappearance of Our Imam and help us to abide by the teachings of Imam Hasan Mujtaba (peace be upon him) so that we can be a part of his mission and play a role in avenging the blood of our holy Imams (peace be upon them) and spread peace throughout the world.
