Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) says: Verily Umm Ja’far al-Kalabiyah (Umm al-Banin) cried and grieved for Imam Husain (peace be upon him) until she lost her eye-sight.

Al-Amali li al-Shajari, v.1, pg. 175

After the event of Ashura, when the caravan came back to Medina and the news of the Martyrdom of Imam Husain (peace be upon him) and his beloved ones was read to the people of Medina, cries of grief and sorrow spread across the city.

A lady who lost all her sons in the battle of Karbala didn’t enquire about her sons. The only thing that concerned her mind was the plight of her Imam, al-Husain (peace be upon him.)

Condolences on the demise anniversary of Lady Umm al-Banin (peace be upon her), the mother of the flag bearer at Karbala, Hadhrat Abbas (peace be upon him)

Fatimah, titled Umm al-Banin, was the daughter of Huzam al-Kalabiyah and belonged to one of the respectable tribes of Arabia. She had the honor to marry Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and serve as a mother to the children of Fatimah, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). She gave birth to four children, all of whom were martyred defending Imam Husain (peace be upon him) in Karbala. She promoted the message of Karbala and never spared. She bid farewell to this world in 69 A.H. Her blessed grave is in Baqee’ Graveyard alongside the four infallible Imams and other holy personalities from the household of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
